United Way of Mat-Su Week of Caring
What is Week of Caring?
Originally a single “Day of Caring”, this annual Valley-wide volunteer effort was expanded to an entire week several years ago, in order to accommodate more projects and a wider schedule. Week of Caring brings United Way of Mat-Su’s expertise in volunteer recruitment and coordination to benefit our fellow nonprofits. Nonprofits from around the Mat-Su are encouraged to submit any spring projects they may need help with, so that UWMS can recruit and deploy volunteers to ensure that those projects get done.
This year’s Week of Caring was a huge success! Thank you so much to all the amazing community volunteers whose hard work helped our fellow nonprofits complete important spring projects. We’re happy to report that the following nonprofits and their awesome volunteers were able to paint, rake, garden, organize, clean, and in one case, even box up and move an entire office! Teams from the following joined us all week long to lend a helping hand: Mat-Su Health Foundation; First National Bank Alaska; Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union; LINKS Parent Resource Center; MEA; Susitna Rotary Club; Stacey Kolstad.
Many thanks to our sites: Family Promise Mat-Su; Alaska Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center; Alpine Historical Park; Youth 360-Wasilla; Palmer Amoosement Park; Palmer Moose Lodge; turn-A-leaf Thrift Store; Spring Creek Farm; Big Lake Public Library.
