Volunteer Spotlight: Karis Johannes
Take a look back at a volunteer whose dedication to the Mat-Su has helped generations of youth, families and kids grow:
Karis Johannes, 2015’s Volunteer of the Year
Karis has mentored young parents and clients at HeartReach Center since 2013. Her stalwart guidance and knowledge, along with her diligence in learning and receiving training, made her a fixture at the center. She has also been a volunteer for REACH907 (formerly Royal Family Kids AK), with her husband Scott-the two helped to run REACH907’s summer camps, working with youth and kids in need.
Other volunteer efforts include Wasilla Food Pantry positions, including that of secretary, the Wasilla High School Booster Club and Valley Performing Arts. Karis’ wide range of interests and knowledge have helped the Valley community in many areas!
Karis and Scott founded the MTA Sports Center, where community members have gathered to pursue basketball, fitness, and physical activity for years.
Thank you, Karis, for your dedication to the Valley! We appreciate you!
