ACCOUNTABILITY

The United Way system has established clear requirements for preparing audited financial statements to ensure consistency and transparency across all United Way branches. These standards, based on industry best practices, generally accepted accounting principles, and Financial Accounting Standards Board guidelines, create a uniform approach to financial reporting. Additionally, United Way has developed guidelines for completing the IRS Form 990, clarifying complex areas and setting a consistent standard for all branches, even where the IRS allows flexibility.

At United Way of Mat-Su, we believe our impact is best measured by how well we fulfill our mission to create positive change in the community. We recognize the importance of holding ourselves—and our local partners—to high standards. Since 2003, new membership standards for United Way branches have strengthened local accountability and transparency. Each year, all branches must certify compliance with these standards to United Way Worldwide.

Transparency

We believe in transparency and openly share not only our IRS Form 990, as required by law, but also our independently audited financial statements. By doing so, we aim to demonstrate our commitment to accountability and responsible stewardship of the assets entrusted to us by our donors.
